KAS Eupen 3 Lommel SK 2
Comeback not enough for LSK: 3-2 defeat in Eupen Wedstrijd - Verslag 01 feb Lommel SK suffered its sixth defeat in a row in Eupen. In a spectacular match, Groen-Wit fought back from 2-0 down, but still got the lid on their noses late in the match. Ryan Garry started the away game against KAS Eupen with four different names compared to Wednesday's game against Royal Francs Borains. Diego Rosa, Danny McGrath, Leon Lalic and Sam De Grand disappeared from the starting line-up and were replaced by Joey Pelupessy, Ibrahima Kebe, Henry Oware and Djaier Prijor. Another highlight for the latter, as it was his starting debut in Lommel SK's A-team for the youngster. Dries Wouters was once again the captain of the Groen-Witten.

LSK did not start the game well at the Kehrweg in Eupen. Within five minutes, interim head coach Ryan Garry's team already had to chase. Yentl Van Genechten captured the ball and was able to run through to Nikola Ivezic's goal. The home side's right-back finished the chance skilfully: 1-0.

The first big chance for LSK was for Alvaro Santos. Jason van Duiven captured the ball in midfield and was able to head towards goal. The Dutchman saw his Spanish colleague standing free and passed the ball perfectly. Santos lashed out, but his shot was turned away by the home side's goalkeeper. Yet KAS Eupen remained the most dangerous side. Through fast breakaways, the Pandas looked for a second and goalkeeper Nikola Ivezic had to make several saves.

It turned out to be just a reprieve, as exactly halfway through the first half KAS Eupen doubled the score. Nikola Ivezic turned away the home side's shot, but in the rebound Emrehan Gedikli was in the right place to slide the leather into the goal. LSK kept going and got reward after work on the half-hour mark. Yvan Titi was brought down in the penalty area, earning a penalty kick. Mohamed Salah got behind the ball and shot cleanly: 2-1.

The equaliser gave Groen-Wit confidence and Ryan Garry's team actively sought the equaliser. This did not come, leaving Lommel SK with a 2-1 deficit while heading for the dressing rooms of the Kehrwegstadion.

Comeback, but with no result
Both teams started the second half unchanged. LSK came out of the dressing room sharp and had their first shooting chance after just under five minutes. Ibrahima Kebe tried from long range, but his shot did not find its way between the posts. Just after this first firing, Djaier Prijor was close to scoring his first goal in the first team. The 19-year-old was completely free in front of the enemy goal after an excellent cross from Jason van Duiven. However, he could not get his head to the ball.

Ten minutes after the first whistle in the second half, LSK did find the back of the net. Ibrahima Kebe passed well and shot at goal again. The ball was touched on the way, leaving Eupen goalkeeper Julian Renner without a chance: 2-2! An explosion of joy on the pitch, the bench and in the awayend was the result!

The equaliser was followed by a phase of little to no good football and a lot of fighting. KAS Eupen got back into the game and goalkeeper Ivezic had saee his team on several occasions. Yet LSK suffered a major setback in this phase. Captain Dries Wouters fell out injured and was replaced by Yeboah Amankwah. Jason van Duiven became the new captain.

In the absolute closing stages, things eventually went wrong for LSK. Jan Gorenc was the allert at a corner kick and he fired in the decisive 3-2. Lommel SK briefly seemed to come back to 3-3, but the Dutch referee had detected offside and so the goal from Jason van Duiven did not go ahead. LSK thus suffered its sixth defeat in a row.

After three games in six days, Lommel SK now gets a little more rest towards the next match. On Friday 7 February, LSK will play at home against Club NXT at 20:00. Tickets for this match are available at tickets.lommelsk.be.
