To mark the important milestone, the Club hosted a dedication ceremony to officially open City Football Academy Lommel. From now on, CFA Lommel will be the beating heart of the Club, with facilities for first-team players, technical staff, and club employees. Players from the elite youth teams will also soon be able to use the available spaces.
Mattijs Manders, Chief Executive Officer of Lommel SK, commented on the exciting opening: “Today marks a milestone for Lommel SK: a state-of-the-art training complex where our first team can work every day in the best possible conditions. With all facilities — from pitches and rehabilitation to analysis and high-performance support — on one site, we raise the quality of training, shorten the pathway from talent to professional football and strengthen our performance culture. CFA Lommel will help our players, staff and partners realise their full potential and gives us the professional environment that matches our sporting ambitions.”
Roel de Vries, Group Chief Operating Officer of City Football Group, continued: “With the official opening of CFA Lommel today, it will be easier than ever for Lommel SK to take full advantage of City Football Group’s global network. This City Football Academy plays a vital role in bringing our football philosophy, performance expertise and data-driven way of working even closer to players and coaches. By connecting best practices and knowledge-sharing across the Group with strong local roots, we accelerate talent development and raise the standard of coaching. CFA Lommel confirms our long-term commitment to Lommel and Belgium and provides an infrastructure that can grow alongside the ambitions of the Group and of Lommel SK as a club.”
The facility was developed in collaboration with the City of Lommel. Mayor Bob Nijs also shared his enthusiasm about the new facility in his city: “It is gratifying to open a modern training complex of international stature in Lommel today. The result of a close and constructive collaboration between the city, the Club and CFG. CFA Lommel is more than a sports facility: it creates opportunities for our young people, brings visitors to our city and supports our local economy. We are proud of this joint project, which strengthens Lommel’s profile and makes our city and our Club an even more attractive place to live, work and play sports.”
